*NPW I ain't forget about you homie*
For a while now I've been debating on whether or not to relinquish this subject from my mental cell block but enough is enough. It's no secret that it's getting hot which means many people are preparing for summer by going to the gym, popping tags (for my white readers that's negro for buying new clothes) etc.
It's too often that I have encountered individuals that I know personally who either come across a little bit of paper and "upgrade" themselves if you will, by buying new gear or getting a new haircut or whatever. Usually these encounters evoke some form of a mentality change for the individual which more than likely results into a negative thing.
Some people, not all people tend to undergo this change because they have a new self worth that is attached to the gear that they buy. It's like a bonus to some degree. As if the retailers say "With every several hundred dollar purchase, we'll give you a smidgen of confidence."
I'm a firm believer in the fact that individual makes the gear, the gear doesn't make the individual. If you been a fashion savvy individual regardless of what you buy you're still going to be as savvy as you were before the purchase.
"They say that money change you, money don't change you. It just makes you more of what you already are." - Phonte
With that being said if you are a clown, lame, or a loser, or whatever it doesn't matter what you buy the merchandise is not going to change you. You still will be a clown...With new gear.
There's a term I picked up over the years and the term is a "Getwit" which to simply put it means you "getwit" whatever is popular at the time. I don't know how many people I see wearing V-neck white tees and designer jeans since the explosion of the new Lil Wayne. Negroes forget Lil Wayne used to wear FUBU and Reebok Classics, "BLING BLING."
I have a dozen pair of designer jeans but when I buy them I don't feel any different than I did when I had 1 pair. That's because I'm still the same person underneath them jeans...Ladies
There are numerous women out there that get a new handbag or some designer shades whether they real or fake, not really my concern, and you can't tell them nothing. With that bag or pair of shades came 2 smidgens of confidence because now with these products they are able to perpetrate as if they don't shop at Wet Seal and Forever XXI hard body.
Granted there's nothing wrong with those stores. There's nothing wrong with shopping anywhere you find exactly what you were looking for, for a bargain. Don't get me wrong, but I can not stress the fact enough. I'm passionate about this shit being the savvy lil dude that I am, but although you may get compliments and a few extra looks in your direction than you used to, I want you know that if you wasn't shit before, you still ain't shit. The only difference now is that you've been accepted by the superficial and you will forever be a joke to the SUPER-OFFICIAL...and that's What JLB KNOWS
***Real recognize Real*** You don't ever have to perpetrate

Hahahahaha. Good article. This reminds me of that movie "Love Don't Cost A Thing". Nick Cannon was a clown in the movie before he had some gear, and he was a clown after he got it (aint like the shit he was wearing before or after was fresh). Its definitely about a person's swag and and how they make the linen hang off them, which comes from confidence. Cuz if a dude got on a FUBU jersey, and he approach a women respectful or wit confidence, she might give him some play. Ok, the FUBU jersey example was a bit extreme, but you get the point. I guess money and fresh gear equals confidence in most cases.
